Rabbits Terminator Vision

Electronic contact lenses give rabbits Terminator vision, headed to humans soon

In mankind's seemingly endless strive to become more robot than human, scientists at the University of Washington in Seattle have taken a big step forward — giving rabbits a Terminator-esque vision enhancement. Using advanced contact lens technology, researchers have put small pixel displays into the eyes of bunnies in order to test the feasibility of future use in humans.
The first wireless pixel displays tested on the rabbits look a lot like ordinary contact lenses, but with a small ring around the edge. A tiny illuminated section in the center of the device is activated by a radio transmitter, causing the spot to light up. In testing, the display sprung to life at a distance of 3 feet from the signal source when the lens was sitting freely, but required a distance of just 2 centimeters to activate when placed in the animal's eye.
The tests were deemed a success, as they demonstrated that on-eye displays could be placed and removed without damaging the sensitive outer coverings of a living eye. Future tests aim to bump up the resolution to include multiple pixels capable of displaying numbers or text. Barring any major roadblocks, future versions could be useful in displaying navigation instructions or monitoring medical conditions such as glaucoma and diabetes.

Apple's first and only iOS game goes kaput

As spotted by MacRumors this morning, the game is no longer available on the App Store, giving users an error message if they try to click through to its product page.
An Apple spokesman confirmed that the company is no longer selling the app, but declined to elaborate.
The $4.99 card game, which continued the card-playing franchise from the clickwheel iPod era, went on sale just weeks after the launch of the original App Store. Apple pitched it as an example of the kind of things developers could do on its then-fledgeling software development and sales platform.
Despite that initial pitch, Apple did not update the software to keep it in pace with changes to iOS and its own product line, including the iPad, which the title did not natively support.
Since releasing Texas Hold'em, Apple has shifted developmental focus to utility applications for MobileMe, and portable-size versions of its productivity and creativity software for Mac OS X. Any gaming-related resources have gone into Game Center, Apple's social platform that developers can build into their own titles.

PETA slams Mario over use of a fur suit

On Monday, the controversial organization issued a press release attacking iconic Nintendo mascot Mario for wearing a 'Tanooki' suit in his latest adventure, the Nintendo 3DS game Super Mario 3D Land, which hit shelves on Sunday.
"Tanooki may be just a "suit" in Mario games, but by wearing the skin of an animal, Mario is sending the message that it's OK to wear fur," PETA says.
The raccoon-like suit, which grants Mario the ability to glide across the screen, has been a part of the franchise since first appearing as a power-up in 1988's Super Mario Bros. 3.  In the new game, Mario acquires the suit not by doing something lousy to a Tanooki, but by snagging a Super Leaf.
Still, PETA insists this encourages animal abuse.
"Tanukis are real-life raccoon dogs who are beaten and, as PETA's undercover exposés show, often skinned alive for their fur," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "This winter, everyone can give raccoon dogs and other fabulous animals a 1-UP by keeping our wardrobes fur-free."
To help prove their point, PETA has even commissioned a crude parody video game called "Super Tanooki Skin 2D" in which players try to re-capture their skin from a flying Mario (Warning: Kind of disturbing, and totally not fun.)
It's just the latest in a long line of PETA game complaints. In 2008 they went after Cooking Mama for not being a vegetarian, while just last year they parodied challenging downloadable platform hit Super Meat Boy for starring a piece of raw meat.
Nintendo has yet to comment, though we're pretty sure it will sound like a hand slapping a forehead.

Pacquiao beats Marquez by controversial decision

LAS VEGAS – The potential $200 million fight was saved by a very slim judges’ call.
Manny Pacquiao defeated Juan Manuel Marquez in yet another excruciatingly close fight, winning a majority decision Saturday before a sellout crowd of 16,368 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena to keep hopes alive for a 2012 match between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Judge Robert Hoyle had it a draw, 114-114, as did Yahoo! Sports. But judge Dave Moretti favored Pacquiao 115-113 and Glenn Trowbridge had Pacquiao winning 116-112. Thus, Pacquiao retained his World Boxing Organization welterweight title and kept alive a mega-bout against Mayweather.
Upon hearing the decision, Marquez and his team stormed out of the ring.
Mayweather, who routed Marquez by winning every round of a 2009 fight, is the only fighter in the world other than the Filipino congressman with a legitimate claim to boxing’s mythical pound-for-pound top spot.
And after Saturday’s performance, Mayweather may move up regardless.
Pacquiao has had difficulty in three fights with Marquez’s counter-punching style and Saturday was no different. Marquez, who bulked up to 142 pounds, was able to consistently land a straight right hand and keep Pacquiao off-balance.
Pacquiao, who had been on a 14-fight winning streak going into the match, was only able to get his offense untracked in spurts. And unlike the first two bouts, in which he had four knockdowns, Pacquiao was unable to get Marquez onto the floor.

Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez: 10 Bold Predictions for the Fight

This Saturday, November 12, 2011, the fighter The Ring ranks No. 1 pound-for-pound in the world, Manny Pacquiao, will meet the man who has been his greatest rival, Juan Manuel Marquez, for a third time.
In May 2004, Marquez came back from three first-round knockdowns and a huge 10-6 hole to more or less give the still-raw Pacquiao a boxing lesson the rest of the way, in route to a draw.
In March 2008, Pacquiao took a razor-thin split decision in the rematch; Marquez maintains he won that fight, and a lot of boxing fans and writers agree with him.
How close have those two fights been? According to the most recent issue of The Ring, if you add up all six judges' cards from both fights, Manny comes out on top by a single point, 679-678.
Reasonable people question whether this third match up will live up to the excitement of the previous two classics. It comes three years after the first sequel, and seven beyond the first bout, a lifetime in this unforgiving sport. The catch weight of 144 pounds is nine above where Marquez has been most effective so far in his career.
So maybe I just don't see this like a reasonable person, because when I hear Marquez and Pacman are going to finally fight for a third and final time, I just think, "Great, it's about time."

Frazier defined what it means to be a fighter

Muhammad Ali drew the crowds, charmed the media and stole the show. But while Ali is deservedly remembered as “The Greatest,” it was Joe Frazier who defined what being a fighter was truly about.
Frazier, who died Monday in his Philadelphia home after a fight with liver cancer, is inextricably linked in boxing history with Ali. They competed in two of the most sensational bouts of all-time and defined an era with their fearsome rivalry.
Ali had nearly all of the physical advantages, but in the fight that remains the most significant in the sport’s history, it was Frazier who threw perhaps the perfect left hook to knock down Ali in the 15th round, punctuating a victory on March 8, 1971, in what will forever be remembered as “The Fight of the Century.”

Frazier rose from the most humble beginnings in Buford, S.C., to become a gold medalist and the world heavyweight champion, doing it through sheer will and perseverance. He fought in a classic bobbing-and-weaving style, working his way to the inside by attacking the body and then unleashing his money punch, the left hook.
He paid a heavy price to get inside, particularly in his bouts against Ali, but Frazier was fearless.
“I really and truly loved the guy,” promoter Bob Arum, who handled Ali, said. “He was a real man. He was a proud, great warrior who was everything that was great about boxing. It was one of my life’s great experiences knowing him.
“If I were in a war zone fighting against any enemy, the guy I would choose to have next to me was Joe Frazier. There was no quit in him and he was really a man.”

What is a Computer?

Launch video! Watch the video (1:54). Need help?
A computer is an electronic device that manipulates information, or "data." It has the ability to store, retrieve, and process data. You can use a computer to type documents, send email, and browse the internet. You can also use it to handle spreadsheets, accounting, database management, presentations, games, and more.

Computers Simplified
For beginning computer users, the computer aisles at an electronics store can be quite a mystery, not to mention overwhelming. However, computers really aren't that mysterious. All types of computers consist of two basic parts:
  • Hardware is any part of your computer that has a physical structure, such as the computer monitor or keyboard.
  • Software is any set of instructions that tells the hardware what to do. It is what guides the hardware and tells it how to accomplish each task. Some examples of software are web browsers, games, and word processors such as Microsoft Word.

Microsoft Word (software)Microsoft Word (software)
Anything you buy for your computer can be classified as either hardware or software. Once you learn more about these items, computers are actually very straightforward.
The first electronic computer, the Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer (ENIAC), was developed in 1946. It took up 1,800 square feet and weighed 30 tons.

Windows 8 Release Date Projected Late 2011

The Windows 8 release date has been shrouded in a cloud of rumors. Most experts expect a late 2011 early 2012 release of the operating system. A recently leaked Windows 8 product cycle chart provides the answers needed to determine the release date of the next Windows OS by Microsoft.
You can take a look at the image here. The chart lists the planning, development and readiness product cycle of Windows 8 and related Microsoft products such as Internet Explorer 8, Windows Live Wave 4, Windows Live Wave 5 and Windows 7. It also lists major events.
Some events and products have already been held / released and it is possible to pinpoint the release date of Windows 8 by making the remaining calculations.
Here is what we know. Forum I and Forum II have been major events, the former held in December 2009, the latter in April 2010. The listing lists four additional event, Forum III to Forum VI. The next two events fall into the development phase of Windows 8, the remaining two into the readiness phase.
Internet Explorer 9 and Windows Live Wave 4 have either been announced with final dates (at least for the beta) or released already.
Forum II was held 4-5 months after Forum I. If we take this approach we can calculate the approximate month of the other four forums. This would mean between 16 to 20 months from April 2010 on which coincides perfectly with the projected late 2011 release date.
The Windows 8 beta should be released around June 2011 and the final release might even hit the stores at the same time that Windows 7 was released, which was October.
The Internet Explorer 9 product cycle confirms the findings. Microsoft has announced a beta release of Internet Explorer 9 for August 2010. This would be the same time that Forum III will be held, which is exactly four months after Forum II.
The chart may be a bit off since Windows Live Wave 4 was released in June. It could be that Microsoft has projected the Forum III conference for June / July instead.
Could also be that the chart is not 100% accurate and it can happen that development cycles need to be shifted, especially if major issues are encountered during development.
Still, we are pretty sure that Microsoft will release the beta of Windows 8 in or around June 2011 and the final release of the operating system in or around October 2011.

iPad Laser Virtual Keyboard

Now, this is sheer genius. It must have been designed with a true iPad and iPhone user! This product is great for laptops, iPhones and iPads alike. This device turns any flat surface into a fully functional keyboard. The Cube Laser Virtual Keyboard connects via USB which means there are no drivers to install. It is compatible with Windows XP, Vista 7 and, of course Mac! It has 150 minutes of battery life. The Virtual Keyboard works best on flat opaque surfaces but provides the user a convenient way to type on an otherwise more challenging device!

Simply plug into your USB port and off you go! The keyboard looks very similar to a regular full-sized keyboard used with desktop and laptop computers. This is great for those who are addicted to their iPhones and iPads but suffer from fat finger syndrome! Sometimes using your thumbs is a lot harder than it should be. Hitting all the wrong keys and buttons can make for an embarrassing text or email! Take the burden off with this cool new product!
