How to Hook Up Laptop to a TV With Picture & Sound Using a VGA Cable?

You can use the VGA port on the side of your laptop to hook it up to your TV, so you can watch digital videos or pictures and browse websites on your TVs larger screen. The VGA or Video Graphics Array interface is capable of transporting video between your computer and an external monitor, but does not carry any audio signals. Use a separate cable to connect the audio from your laptop's headphone jack to the inputs on your TV.

Instructions Things You'll Need:
VGA cable, 3.5mm Stereo to RCA adapter cable

1.
Insert one end of the VGA cable into the "VGA" port on the side of the laptop. Fasten the screws on either side of the cable to secure the connection.

2. Plug the other end of the cable into the "VGA" or "PC" port on the input panel of your TV and secure the screws on the end of the cable.

3. Insert the single end of the 3.5mm Stereo to RCA adapter into the headphone jack on the side of your computer, and plug the other end of the adapter cables into the "Audio IN" ports on the rear of the TV.
