Some computers use a Video Graphics Array (VGA) connection port to hook up an external monitor. The four-sided VGA jack contains 15 pin holes arranged in three rows. VGA plugs connect to a computer and external monitor in a manner similar to other computer peripherals, such as a printer. A computer can be connected to a TV with a VGA cable whether the TV has a VGA input or RCA-type video jacks, for which VGA adapters are available.
Instructions Things You'll Need: Television, VGA cable or VGA to component adapter, RGB component cables, Computer
1 Check the back panel of the TV to determine the available video connections. A VGA port is usually labeled VGA IN. The four-sided jack contains 15 pin holes that match up with the steel pins inside a VGA plug for transmitting video data.
2. Use a VGA cable to connect with the computer if the TV is equipped with a VGA jack. The VGA plug inserts straight into the jack with the wider edge turned upwards.
3. Tighten the locking screws on each side of the VGA plug to secure it to the jack on the TV. Connect the other end of the cable to the computer's Monitor OUT or VGA OUT port and tighten the locking screws by hand.
4. Use a VGA to component video cable adapter when the TV does not have a VGA jack by plugging the RGB (Red, Green, Blue) plugs on the component cables into the corresponding color-coded jacks on the VGA adapter..
5. Connect the VGA jack on the adapter to one end of the VGA cable and plug the other end of the cable into the computer's VGA OUT or Monitor OUT jack.
6. Connect the RGB plugs on the other end of the adapter to the RGB Video IN jacks on the back of the TV.
