Manny Pacquiao’s Next Fight Announced: Fan’s Take

In the sport of boxing, there are two fights that fans want to see. One involves the two best heavyweights in the world, Vitali Klitschko and Wladimir Klitschko and the other involves Manny Pacquiao and Floyd "Money" Mayweather. While the two brothers will likely never see the inside of a boxing ring together, the hopes that Mayweather and Pacquiao will one day see the ring together still remain.
Last week, Mayweather announced through Twitter that he will be fighting Miguel Cotto on May 5. That day was the hopeful meeting date for the two best "small" fighters in the world, but as Mayweather said, "I'm fighting Miguel Cotto on May 5th because Miss Pac Man is ducking me."
Pacquiao's last fight wasn't the best he has ever had, winning a controversial decision against Juan Manuel Marquez. Had he won that fight convincingly, there is little doubt in the minds of many that he would have obliged by any stipulations Mayweather expressed to get that fight. Instead, Marquez showed Mayweather how to beat Pacquiao, which could be why it seems that the Filipino-born fighter may be "ducking" the undefeated Mayweather.
Instead of appearing in the dream fight of the century, Pacquiao (54-3-2, 38 KOs) will now
fight a month later than Mayweather and will do so against Timothy Bradley Jr. Bradley (28-0, 12 KOs) is no push-over by any means, but he doesn't have the talent of Mayweather. The one thing Bradley does have is his age. At 28, he has the speed to possibly pull off the same evading tactics that have caused Pacquiao the most problems throughout his career.
Pacquiao has agreed to the fight, while Bradley's side is still working on some kinks, but the fight will happen on June 9 from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nev. It will still draw pay per view buys because of Pacquiao, but I think it would be safe to assume that Mayweather-Cotto will make more money. The fact still remains that a fight with Pacquiao and Mayweather would be the highest-grossing event in the history of boxing and with a win by both men in their respective fights, could happen before the end of 2012.
