My PowerShot SX100 IS Won't Work With USB 1

Unfortunately, a computer with USB 1 ports cannot be used to transfer photos and videos from the PowerShot SX100 IS because they don't have sufficient power required for data transfer. PowerShot SX100 IS is only compatible with USB 2.0 ports and connects with a 4-pin USB Type A - M - 4-pin mini-USB Type B cable.

USB The PowerShot SX100 IS digital camera can only work with USB 2.0 ports for high-speed data transfers. The camera isn't compatible with USB 1 ports, which are found on older computers running older operating systems like Windows 95. With USB 2.0 ports, the camera transfers photos and videos to a compatible computer like a portable hard drive or using third-party software.

Compatibility If you plan to use the provided software to transfer pictures and videos from the the PowerShot SX100 IS using a compatible USB 2.0 port, the computer must meet the program's requirements. A computer running Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 or newer is required. In addition, a Pentium1.4 GHz processor and at least 512 megabytes of RAM for newer computer and a minimum resolution of 1024 by 768 pixels is also required. For Mac users, OS X v10.3 or newer is required. In the computer should contain a PowerPC G3 or a newer Intel Processor and at least 256 megabytes of RAM.

Cables
Although you can plug SD cards used in a PowerShot SX100 IS directly into a card reader on the computer, you can also connect the digital camera directly to the computer using the Canon IFC-400PCU USB interface cable. This connection type is especially beneficial if your computer doesn't have a built-in card reader. When you connect the digital camera to a compatible USB 2.0 port, the device's hard disk is displayed in Windows Explorer or the desktop if you're using a Mac.

Software In addition to a compatible computer, the PowerShot SX100 IS comes with a setup CD that allows you to install the Canon Camera TWAIN driver that lets the device communicate with the computer via USB 2.0 ports. The setup CD also contains other photo management and editing programs. After installing the software, the driver is installed automatically when you connect the digital camera to the computer.
